Description

When you attempt to upload Wildcard Certificate to VMstore in Settings->More->Certificate->Host Certificate upload and get an error message:

Invalid certificate:  missing certificate or private key

In case the private key is not readily available, you can use the openssl command (Linux or Windows) to convert the certificate.pfx file to certificate.cer as a workaround.

How To

To extract the private key from the certificate.pfx file in order to upload to Tintri VMstore, do the following:

  1. On a Windows or Linux machine, run Openssl pkcs12 –in certificate.pfx –out certificate.cer –nodes
  2. Note – replace certificate.pfx with name of pfx file.  For Openssl commands, refer to https://www.sslshopper.com/article-most-common-openssl-commands.html
  3. After the conversion is done, you can now upload the certificate.cer without any error.
