LACP Best Practices

Applies To

Product(s): T445, T540, T6xx, T8xx

Product Version(s): Tintri OS v2.1 (and later).

Details

Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) allows several physical ports to be bonded together forming a single logical channel. Enabling LACP on the Tintri VMstore™ provides an option to increase maximum network throughput by combining the available bandwidth of both physical ports, per controller, for the selected network.

Standard Configuration

Connectivity

  • Both ports from VMstore controller A connect to network switch A.
  • Both ports from VMstore controller B connect to network switch B.

 Port Configuration

  • The ports on network switch A (those connected to both ports on VMstore controller A) are configured in the same LACP aggregator group, seen as port-channel 1 in the image below.
  • The ports on network switch B (those connected to both ports on VMstore controller B) are configured in the same LACP aggregator group, seen as port-channel 2 in the image below.

Multi-Chassis Configuration

Connectivity

  • Port A from VMstore controller A connects to network switch A.
  • Port B from VMstore controller A connects to network switch B.
  • Port A from VMstore controller B connects to network switch A.
  • Port B from VMstore controller B connects to network switch B.

 Port Configuration

  • The ports on network switch A and network switch B (those connected to both ports on VMstore controller A) are configured in the same distributed LACP aggregator group, seen as port-channel 1 in the image below.
  • The ports on network switch A and network switch B (those connected to both ports on VMstore controller B) are configured in the same distributed LACP aggregator group, seen as port-channel 2 in the image below.
